There are many different reasons why women may experience hair loss. Both men and women tend to lose hair as they increase in age, but we see certain conditions which may propagate more hair loss such as menopause.

In menopause, women will lose their hair because their bodies are going through a hormonal change. This is the reason why they will no longer menstruate. Their production of the hormone estrogen is decreasing. This is a hormone which initiates many of the female functions thoughout her life, and once menopause occurs, androgens (or male hormones) dominate.

During menopause, there are many changes to a woman’s body. Estrogen has an influence on many of the tissues in the body including the skin, heart, and bone. The loss of this hormone, at times, necessitates its replacement through pills prescribed or topical creams.

Hair loss in women causes a female pattern baldness different from men. Women lose hair throughout their scalp where there may not be distinct areas of hair loss like in men. There are several reasons a woman could lose hair such as thyroid disease or syphilis. These are only to name a few. If menopause is the cause of hair loss, it typically regrows within two years or even in six months.

Certain situations may arise where seeking your physicians advice may be warranted. These may include if there is an unusual pattern to the hair loss. Remember, hair loss due to menopause is evenly dispersed, and not in patches. If hair loss is occurring at an early age, this may be more concerning. Is there any itching or scaliness of the scalp? Is the hair loss painful? Is there a male pattern baldness? Is the hair loss associated with fatigue, weakness, or cold intolerance? These are important questions that should be noted.

Other questions that might be asked are whether the patient takes any medications which may cause the hair loss. Is the patient under any unusual stress, or what types of shampoos do they use? There are many reasons to lose hair, and to find the right cause will lead to the correct treatment.

Hair loss is a problem for men and women, however, women can lose hair specifically due to menopause. The hair will regrow so it is not a serious problem. If a woman is self-conscious, measures like hats, wigs, or something of that nature can be a temporary solution because it is a temporary problem. Products are coming out which advertise successful hair growth for this type of problem, too.

Women take pride in their hair, and the loss of their their beautiful strands can be a source of concern. It has been recorded the causes of hair loss in women, and the fact of age is one of them. This will discuss the topic of hair loss in menopause.

Women in menopause may experience some loss of hair during this time because of the hormonal changes they are going through. These hormonal changes affect so many areas of the body that at times, hair is the target. What is happening is estrogen is decreasing in their system. Once estrogen production has decreased, male hormones or androgens play a larger role in the body. This is why hair loss can occur.

Estrogen plays an important role in the female body. It has a significant influence on many tissues in the body. As menopause progresses, women can notice changes from their skin to potential bone and heart disease. Replacement of this hormone may be prescribed to resolve some of these issues.

The pattern of baldness women experience is different from that of men. The female will lose her hair throughout her scalp where a male will have a receding hairline. The causes of female hair loss is quite numerous, and a couple of examples are thyroid disease and syphilis. Certain conditions may cause hair loss, and once that disease is resolved the hair grows back. Menopause is like this. Though menopause will continue, the hair loss is not permanent, and the hair regrows.

Certain hair loss situations are concerning, and a doctor should be sought. Things to look for are any unusual patterns of hair loss. Hair loss in menopause is more scant through out and not in patches. Is there any itchiness or redness to the baldness. Is there pain associated? Does the patient complain of fatigue, weakness, or any changes in her neck? These are important symptoms to take note.

The physician may want to know other information like if any medications are being used. Does the patient use any different shampoos? Identifying the right cause will lead to the correct treatment.

Hair loss for men and especially women can be a cause for concern for them making them self-conscious. In menopause, it is a temporary problem because it usually returns, at the most, within two years. Some products now advertise their success in treating female baldness to alleviate their discomfort with hair loss.
